Nighttime Visitor

The last few nights, we have had a little male house sparrow roosting in the eaves on our porch. He is seemingly all right, chasing away a few other sparrows that tried to join him and disappearing during the day. When I turn on the porch light he doesn't seem to mind, and stayed put for me to take this cute photo.

Nice sparrow, are they indigenous or a UK/european import? -we used to get loads of them in the garden but for some unexplained reason their numbers have crashed, now we get only one or two a year - very sad - I really like their cheeky antics and nonstop chatter.

Cheers

The European house sparrow is indeed a non-native, introduced species here. There are amazingly prolific, and its odd to realize they've experienced major declines in much of their native habitat!
