We are so glad to know that the wet vulture is ok! We approached because we thought for sure it was drowning, and couldn't quite tell what was happening form a distance. As we kayaked by, we considered trying to help it to shore, but it seemed to be paddling well with its feet at that point and got to some kelp. We hoped it would be ok after that and are glad to know that it was! Thanks for your additional concern by calling Wolf Hollow!
-HeidiTraveling Ospreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02223859089776071393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970777878498844654.post-52953351167497970162011-10-10T18:20:50.528-07:002011-10-10T18:20:50.528-07:00Dave - I know they feed infant animals, but I don&...Dave - I know they feed infant animals, but I don't know how they do it. I'll mention it to them if I get a chance! And here's hoping there's a lifer waiting for you when you're set free again!

The K - Not such good luck for the vulture, but I'm glad it turned out all right!

Ingrid - Thank you so much! This was definitely the closest encounter I've ever had with a vulture. They're very cool birds to observe up close.

Ann - Thanks for sharing your observation about the kettles crossing Juan de Fuca. It's really interesting that you've seen them turn back sometimes - makes me think a failed crossing is indeed what happened to this guy. I was amazed he could fly so soon after getting that wet!Monikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10442975942250078450noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970777878498844654.post-1534941358298363282011-10-10T13:30:33.994-07:002011-10-10T13:30:33.994-07:00Awesome story. I'm sure a large number of them end up in the water. It's good to know that some of them can survive a dunking!Ann Nightingalehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06720763748676271338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970777878498844654.post-19502247332602046052011-10-10T12:57:20.257-07:002011-10-10T12:57:20.257-07:00Monika, what a fantastic story. This photo series exceeded any previous experiences I've had with these birds. Just awesome. (Your photos are stunning, btw. Have been looking through your galleries.)Ingridhttp://www.thefreequark.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3970777878498844654.post-7949608457417228802011-10-10T11:43:21.573-07:002011-10-10T11:43:21.573-07:00Incredible good luck for you to be there and docum...Incredible good luck for you to be there and document this story.
